Against fascism in Europe and everywhere

Excerpt from Austria’s Norbert Hofer and the rise of fascism and the far right across Europe, Martin Smith and Tash Shifrin, Dream Deferred
We believe the situation in Europe today shows a growth and development of [...] [fascist and far right racist populist parties] that is without parallel since the 1930s. And after the experience of fascism in power in Europe and the Holocaust, we know just how dangerous that can be. The need to stop history repeating itself could not be more important.
This means that fascist and racist organisations need to be opposed on all levels – political, ideological and organisational. None of them is yet unstoppable. In much of Europe, there is a desperate need for large-scale, broad-based campaigns against the fascist and far right racist parties, both electorally and on the streets.

The art of photography: Florence Henri

“What I want above all,” Florence Henri said near the end of her long life, “is to compose the photograph as I do with painting. Volumes, lines, shadows and light have to obey my will and say what I want them to say. This happens under the strict control of composition, since I do not pretend to explain the world nor to explain my thoughts.”
