Yep, capitalism is most certainly going for it, and most of the time simply by presenting itself as 'our economy'. That is to say as something objective and politically neutral, a subject of technical jargon consisting of numbers, rates and indicators, which has supposedly nothing to do with ideology. And we are simply to follow it, including the current policies of austerity, for our own good.
In Hans Christian Andersen's tale 'The Emperor's New Clothes' there is a child shouting out loud that the emperor is in fact naked. And it seems to me that this placard may be seen as putting forward a similar argument.
